All About Shoyeido

Since their establishment in the early 18th century, Shoyeido has worked diligently to perfect the art of manufacturing Japanese incense, also known as “koh”
Shoyeido's pleased to offer a wide variety of Japanese incense for use in many applications --- for praying in a religious setting, for special activities such as Tea Ceremony, and simply to scent a room for a casual occasion.
Shoyeido create styles of incense ranging from stick incense to aromatic wood chips, kneaded incense, pressed incense and sachets.
It is their mission at Shoyeido to continue to uphold the traditions, art, and ancestry in the manufacturing of Japanese Incense “Koh”.

Gift of Nature

Natural ingredients such as agarwood, sandalwood, cinnamon, clove, star anise – to name a few – are not indigenous to Japan. Shoyeido works closely with many countries to gather these items and to protect the ecological integrity of all natural components in their incense recipes.

Shoyeido believes it is not only their responsibility to appreciate and protect these generous gifts of nature, but also to preserve the traditions of incense blending that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Shoyeido products are produced with the greatest care so our customers can enjoy the highest quality incense.

Incense for Mind and Atmosphere

It is widely believed that incense was brought to Japan over 1400 years ago, along with the conveyance of Buddhism.

Historically, Japanese Incense has often been cherished and used for religious occasions, in the social routine of samurai warriors, and more.

During the Edo period (1603-1867), incense became popular among all classes, as it was established as a tradition for all Japanese culture.

Centuries later, the Japanese style of living has changed but the appreciation and pride for incense in Japanese culture remains the same.

We are pleased to convey the concept of “life with fragrance” to our customers.
